6 in a row @ IMUK wk 20/25

Rookie goes for 6 in a row @ IMUK week 20/25

So last week I wrote a glowing review of the new Bolton bike circuit……

I wish I would have bit my tongue…..

Why?

I’ll tell you for why……

2 laps today and it broke me in two…..

With a 1:30 swim, I reckon the absolute shittest you can be and still make the cut off by the skin of your teeth is 8 hours for the 3 laps…..

Today I rode 2:30 + 2:46 to give a total of 5:16 for the 2 laps….

Not good enough…..

More worryingly it hurt like hell and I was ‘limping’ for large periods especially on the 2nd lap – I hated every bastard second of it…..

At that pace I would need to repeat my lap 2 performance on lap 3 which is never gonna happen…..

The afetside climb, entwistle resovoir and smithalls dean road are all torture 2nd time round and god only knows what they will feel like on lap 3…..

How much of my experience today was down to the fact that last night I went for a 22.5km jog, which is not exactly the brightest idea I’ve ever had, the wind, which was howling as always, my lack of nutrition, me being a fat bastard at least 2 stone overweight or the fact that I am simply not good enough, only time will tell…….

It’s definitely me you know, not the course…..

I saw a lad that ride 2 loops today in 4:15 – an hour quicker than me…….

But make no mistake, this is going to go to the wire for Iron Rookie once again this year……

Fukin great…..

Here is how training went this week……

Mon : 90 pool lenghts

Tues : Weights

Weds : 10km on mill

Thurs : Pool mile, faster poace

Next week…….It’s time for 3 laps of the Bolton bike circuit…..Can I make the cut of 8 hours?
