Rookie Goes for 3 in a Row at Ironman UK Week 19 of 40

Areet?…

It’s saturday morning and i’m pissed off because everything is in place for an IMUK bike loop today but it’s 30 mph winds outside which means I shouldn’t go really but i’m absolutely itching to ‘get out there’…

I’m also pissed off because the magical experience of cycling up Babylon Lane and Hunters Hill on race day whilst being roared on by thousands of supporters on either side of the road appears to be in the process of being torn out of the IMUK bike loop and that is the beating heart of IMUK as far as I am concerned.

It seems to me that this is all down to Lancashire county council who for some reason have the power to tell us where we can and cannot ride our bikes on the big day…….now that really pisses me off.

We are still waiting for the official announcement on this and we must trust that IMUK are doing everything possible to preserve the spine tingling experience of cycling up Babylon Lane & Hunters Hill on race day as we speak…..

In the meantime, here is what I have been up to for the last 7 days training wise….

Sat 2nd…Treacherous conditions today meant a forced Watt Bike…. After 15 minutes on there I sound like a woman giving birth….. Some of the looks you get…….What??????……You fookin come and try doing this….

Sun 3rd….Sunday 10k ish 58 min….This was one of those where you feel like you can keep running forever…Which Is the gig….

Mon 4th….Pool Mile…. Tri Rivi next to me again….Think i’ll ‘nod’ at the coach after me next swim session and see if he responds…

Tues 5th…Weights sesh @ gym….This morning I went to mcdonalds Bolton for a coffee and there was a tramp outside….The fat manager came out and told the tramp to ‘do one’ so I bought the poor tramp his breakfast just to piss the manager off….(and help the tramp)…..True story…

Weds 6th….30 minute watt bike….Marching down a long corridor en route to watt bike and I had 2 girls a fair way in front who kept turning round and smiling …..”All this training is paying off cocker” I thought to myself……Then I realised I had a justin Bieber lookalike walking directly behind me…

Thurs 7th…Pool mile…Easy….Nothing to discuss…

Fri 8th….Weights set at gym…It was only once I go into the changing rooms that I realised I had me tri suit but forgot me overshorts……and I always ‘overshort’….So what do you do?…..Strut round gym proudly displaying ‘package’ …..or call it quits and make your way home??…..Decided to put me undercackers on under me tri suit and get stuck in….That was an interesting experience…..balls felt like they were in a vice for most of the session….but ‘got round’ all the same……
